About Rachel
Rachel Kantner (Rachel Majesty) is a multimedia artist—working primarily in painting—and an artist in residence at Urban Arts House. Her work spans two primary bodies: a series of dreamy, small-scale portraits of pets and people, and a collection of whimsical, folkloric paintings rooted in surrealism.
Rachel’s miniature wood panel portraits—often adorned with handspun yarn—are vibrant, emotionally rich, and highly sought after. Her surreal work draws from folklore, cryptids, and personal mythologies, often inspired by vintage camcorder footage, New England’s mysticism, and the quiet eeriness of everyday life.
Her work is currently exhibited at Urban Arts House and Levengoods in Lancaster, PA, and at Alchemy & Art in Amesbury, MA. She has previously shown at Third Story Gallery and across various conventions and art events throughout the U.S.
Rachel is a dedicated supporter of Humane Pennsylvania, Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, and Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem, MA, frequently donating artwork to support their causes. Earlier in her career, she was a fiber artist whose work was featured in Intertwined by Lexi Boeger and Fine Living Lancaster.
She now serves as President of the Lancaster PA Artist Society (LPAS) and often collaborates with her partner, Damian Sorrow, on creative projects and performances.

The Work
Rachel’s most prized possession is a 1990s VHS tape capturing camcorder footage of two lesbians in their 60s rehearsing clown routines. The tape ends with skits being performed at their official clown school classes. This rare footage, alongside other niche subjects, serves as inspiration. She invites her audience to explore her eclectic collection of interests and characters showcased in her work.
Her work creates a realm of magical tales rooted in overlooked mundane references. Through storytelling, she breathes new life into invisible subjects, transforming them into magical artifacts.
In her multimedia painting practice, she draws from references from her camcorder footage collection—like toys, houses, and yards. Her paintings integrate ink, pencil, and pastel. Recently, she’s introduced paper mache, handspun newspaper, and textured paper borders to create dimension.
A key focus of Rachel's current work is her series of small, custom portraits, where she captures the essence of pets and people in dreamy, vibrant compositions. Painted on tiny primed wood panels, these miniature works blend her signature surreal style with a personal touch, making them highly sought-after keepsakes. Rachel continues refining her speed and technique, aspiring to create live, on-site portraits in the future.
